Reasons for Backlash Behind ‘Bowie on the Blockchain’ NFTs

Would Bowie appreciate this upcoming collection of NFTs?

David Bowie Estate is dropping a bunch of Bowie NFTs dubbed “Bowie on the Blockchain”, but they are bringing Marmite vibes—you will either love or hate it.

As you are most likely aware, David Bowie passed away in January 2016 due to liver cancer.

The collection of Bowie NFTs has sparked debate. Some fans believe he wouldn’t appreciate the collection of NFTs, while others believe he “would have been really into NFTs”:

But, who’s to say what the musical legend would and wouldn’t like? Unfortunately, we can’t speak for the man himself.

Differently, according to another Bowie fan on the social media channel, NFTs are a “pyramid scheme”:

However, it’s important to note that 100% of the proceeds will be donated to CARE’s nonprofit organization. And Bowie’s ex-partner in 2016, Iman, is a global advocate for the chosen charity.

Regardless of whether or not Bowie would like this collection of NFTs, these types of digital assets can be useful for charities in many ways.

More About Bowie on the Blockchain

But how did this Bowie-themed Web3 project come about in the first place?

The David Bowie Estate collaborated with the Web3 company “We Love the Arts” to design the project. The founders then chose nine artists to complete the designs before the minting process takes place on September 13th.

To ensure the NFT artwork suits the musical legend, all artists—Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, Fewocious, Jake, Defaced, Osinachi, Young and Sick, Lirona, Glam Beckett, and Jonathan Wolfe—researched which styles of artworks made Bowie tick.

NFT Debates – Another Broken Record

Nonetheless, regardless of NFTs, people continuously take to Twitter to discuss these digital assets—whether good or bad.

While none of us can know whether Bowie would be thankful for this particular collection of NFTs, it’s helpful to look into the type of person the British singer was. Like the artists did.

Bowie was an avid admirer and collector of art, like many other musical legends.

Not forgetting, the proceeds go towards a worthy cause, to help fight world hunger and global poverty.

So, if you’re a fan of Bowie and believe he would appreciate his face plastered on NFTs alongside the fundraising incentive, keep your eyes peeled on OpenSea to purchase your own Bowie on the Blockchain NFT.
