Former NASA Astronaut sells NFTs to support against the Ukrainian war
Former NASA Astronaut, Scott Kelly, fundraised more than $500,000 through a drop of NFTs to help support against the war in Ukraine.
Content creation studio, Orange Comet, created a series of images of the former NASA astronaut floating on surreal backgrounds. Kelly then minted and sold the collection of NFTs as “Dreams Out of This World.”
THE OUTCOME
Kelly’s NFTs came with state-of-the-art prizes such as official space gear and ownership of real-world artifacts.
The rewards assisted towards the collection of digital assets selling out within a few hours, despite initially being scheduled for three days. Kelly turned to Twitter to inform fans of the drop’s success:
100% of the net profits were donated to GEM, which has rehomed more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees.
“Doing what I can to support the victims of the Ukraine-Russia conflict is a cause that I am passionate about. Anyone familiar with me knows this,” commented Kelly on OpenSea.
The charity also supplies food and medical care to other countries in need.
