The anticipated plan for Telegram to launch a username auction marketplace is just around the corner, according to a Telegram message posted today.

Quick Take:

  • Telegram announces the launch of its username auction marketplace is coming soon
  • 3.9 million members clicked on the message, showing interest in the future of Telegram’s Web3 mission.

Why Telegram is Leaning Into Web3

Despite Pavel Durov, Telegram’s founder, revealing his interest in creating a username auction in August after seeing how much crypto people made off their usernames, the time is finally here.

Durov joined forces with TON, a fully decentralized layer-1 blockchain originally designed by Telegram, which auctions domain names and wallets.

Back in January, he took to his official Telegram channel to share his Web3 plans:

Following this, the popular messaging app has been working hard to create NFT-like smart contracts, to auction high sought-after usernames.

Today, Durov took to his messaging app to tell members that the new marketplace is just around the corner:

Thus far, 3.9 million members clicked on the message, showing interest in Telegram’s Web3 future.
