  • He will also become a Brand Ambassador for the French company.

Messi Invests in SoRare

Soccer star Lionel Messi has joined SoRare, the France-based fantasy football company as an investor and brand ambassador. The Argentinian forward has taken an equity share in the company. The two parties will work together on new content and fan experiences, according to a statement released today.

SoRare CEO and Co-Founder, Nicolas Julia, is excited about the possibilities of the partnership: “We believe Messi will help us set new standards in how we do this, and we look forward to sharing what new content and fan experiences we’ve been collaborating on soon.”

“Fans have always looked for ways to express their passion and get closer to the players and teams that they love. Sorare’s combination of a fantasy game with digital collectibles gives fans new ways to do that, wherever they are in the world” – says Messi, 35.

He joins a star-studded lineup of investors and brand ambassadors, including 23-year-old teammate, Kylian Mbappe.

About Lionel Messi, and his NFT Journey So far

Lionel Messi is a 35-year-old Argentinian football/soccer player currently playing with Paris Saint Germain in France’s Ligue 1. Having spent most of his time at Barcelona, the forward is often deemed as one of, if not the greatest football player of all time. His long-term rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United’s Portuguese forward is the only other name in the picture, according to many.

In August of last year, the soccer star created his first ever officially licensed NFTs on the Ethernity blockchain. The collection, designed by BossLogic, has three different artworks with varying edition sizes. All of the NFTs can be purchased on Ethernity’s secondary marketplace.

Then, this year, Messi inked a three-year deal with Socios, a fan token crypto platform as a global brand ambassador. Despite the fact that Messi’s SoRare deal is exclusive, the Socios agreement still stands. This is because the two companies were seen to not be competitors, according to CNBC.
