NFTs will showcase on Meta to help boost blockchain initiatives

Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s business empire, is ready to roll out digital collectibles, showcasing select NFTs on Instagram as its starting point.

The news was bought to light on May 11 via Instagram’s official account:

HOW TO SHOWCASE NFTS

Few creators and collectors can currently post NFTs they created or own by linking third-party digital wallets on the app. The wallets currently compatible include MetaMask, Rainbow, and Trust Wallet. Whereas support for Phantom, Dapper, and Coinbase is in the pipeline.

The social media platform’s feature will soon allow all Instagram users to connect their digital wallets, share digital collectibles, and automatically tag collectors and creators of NFTs for free. It will support Ethereum and Polygon at launch and plans on adding other blockchains shortly afterwards.

REASONS BEHIND THE FEATURE

The reason behind the feature includes supporting NFT creators wanting to boost popularity and showing all Instagram users the benefits of NFTs.

In this digital age, NFTs are a shift for creators to maintain relationships with collectors. The new feature aims to expand self-expression across social media sites, empowering creators and collectors to share digital expressions.

“We’re starting to test digital collectibles on Instagram so that creators and collectors can display their NFTs,” Zuckerberg told YouTube creator Tom Bilyeu in an interview posted to Facebook Watch. “It’s about expression; it’s saying something about yourself.”

Similarly, Twitter also recently added NFT support that allows ‘Twitter Blue’ subscribers to upload the non-fungible tokens as their profile pictures.
