The Otherside metaverse project is embarking on a fresh chapter for its “Second Trip”. Bored Ape Yacht Club’s (BAYC’s) Yuga Labs recently introduced Legends of the Mara, a collectible 2D strategy game.

Yuga Labs’ Otherside Metaverse
Following the Otherside’s “Second Trip”, which kick-started March 25, 7,200 players from numerous NFT communities — like Azuki, Doodles, and Pudgy Penguins — have been partaking in new environments on Yuga Labs’ metaverse. One included a high energy live test of the BAYC’s persistent world vision.
During this test, the community was split into four groups, led by Brycent, Jimmy Wong, Lowbellie, and Champ Medici. Each group took a huge step toward completing different events and competitions. One such event included being dropped down a giant slide to collect “magic blobs” and drop them on toads. Because why not?
Delving into Legends of the Mara
The fun doesn’t end there. Since the success of Dookey Dash, Yuga Labs have been continuously rolling out fun games and activities for the community — and this time around outsiders — to enjoy.
Next up is a new story installment dubbed “Legends of the Mara”. Yuga Labs announced the metaverse news on Twitter:
Consequently, Yuga’s metaverse will soon include a collectible 2D strategy game with its companion collection. The gaming activities will delve into the origins of the Kodas, their inherent connection with their surroundings and primal relationship, and the tale of the Otherside itself.
Kodas are primary keepers of the Otherside and are findable on specific non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Although, this companion collection can be added and taken away from an Otherdeed holder depending on their gaming performance.
Players of the Otherside project, otherwise known as “Voyagers”, will similarly soon be able to claim a Vessel NFT. These NFTs are meteors used to protect the Otherside. However, only winners of these NFTs can fully discover their potential.
For now, all we know is that Vessels can transform into Mara apprentices, capable of fulfilling one of three roles: Hunting, Farming, or Enchanting. Maras will separate ERC-721 tokens from Vessels with a distinct contract.
Furthermore, Maras will also eventually evolve into more proficient beings called “Kodamaras”.
Awaiting Legends of the Mara – Release and Expectations
While some game details remain uncertain, and speculation abounds, many anticipate the next chapter to be a high energy 2D strategy game akin to Age of Empires or Command and Conquer. The Vessel claim period is set for April, and the game is scheduled to begin in June. But more information will be available in the coming weeks.
Yuga Labs has also been touching upon “Shattered Vessels” in some of its Tweets, but that’s for them to know about and us to shortly post about.
Prestigious fashion brand Gucci may also be making an appearance in the metaverse.
Overall, it is looking to be a big year for Yuga Labs. Excitement is growing within the community — the floor price rose nearly 20% following this most recent announcement.
