The Goose’s Record-Breaking Sale
Previously acquired by the bankrupt hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC), Ringers #879 has an extensive history. As such, experts initially predicted that the NFT would command a price of approximately $2-3 million at yesterday’s Sotheby’s auction. However, vigorous bidding drove the price to greater heights.
Renowned NFT investor known as ‘Punk6529’ secured The Goose for a hammer price of $5.3 million, fully owning the iconic piece for a staggering $6.2 million. The sale was met with thunderous applause, captured by spectator Garret Skrovina:
Post-auction, Sotheby’s confirmed that this transaction claims the title of the second-highest sale ever recorded for a generative art piece.
Alongside Ringers #879, the auction showcased 37 NFT works by other notable generative artists such as Tyler Hobbs, Jeff Davis, and others. Impressively, nearly all of these assets auctioned exceeded their presumed valuations.
The NFT’s Emblem of Significance
The Goose has an influential path in NFT history, previously acquired by 3AC co-founders Kyle Davies and Su Zhu in August 2021 for $5.66 million worth of ETH as part of their Starry Night Capital fund.
The artwork’s rise to fame is attributed to numerous factors. Foremost among its recognition is standing out as a pinnacle in Cherniak’s body of artwork and a benchmark in the archives of the generative art movement.
Cherniak’s creative insight and the pioneering nature of generative art has driven The Goose to become a digital art legend. The digital asset serves as inspiration and a benchmark for future collectors and artists embarking through the dynamic realm of blockchain-powered digital art.
