About the Game of Thrones NFTs
Game of Thrones, which is often classed as one of the biggest (and best) TV shows of all time, released their very own NFTs this Tuesday, titled ‘Game of Thrones: Build Your Realm Hero Box’.
NFT marketplace, Nifty’s played host to the historic project of 4,950 total boxes from Warner Bros.
Each ‘Hero Box’, costing an initial $150 to mint on the marketplace, now sits at a floor price of 0.06 ETH (~$85) on OpenSea. Within each box contained a hero (or legendary hero) avatar, nine recourse cards, and three story cards. For the individual avatars (of which there are only 54), the lowest priced one is available at 0.18 ETH (~$250).
A second collection, or series 2, is soon to come, according to an initial launch preview from Warner Bros at the time of announcement.
Twitter’s Response
As with almost everything in the industry, NFT Twitter always seems to have their opinions – and often share their negative ones. This Game of Thrones case in particular is no different.
The Twitter community swiftly raised their opinion about the project, particularly, the artwork. One of the biggest NFT influencers, Loopify, said: “this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen”, particularly referring to the hands of the created characters.
Other users made comparisons to the meme’d artwork of Kevin from Pixelmon, asking the question of “what’s better?”.
Overall, the social media space found the funny side of the “terrible” artwork. However, the criticism is falling hard on Warner Brothers and Nifty’s. The companies are yet to say anything in response post-criticism yet.
However, pre-release, the NFT marketplace said: “Our teams have diligently worked together to create an interactive collecting experience for Game of Thrones fans to continue their journey and live within the beloved series.”
Since launch two days ago, the project has total volume of over 431 ETH (~$617,000) and counting. It isn’t quite enough to gain a spot on OpenSea’s trending list today. However, it did make its way there yesterday.
