Deafbeef — a famous pseudonymous artist who designs distinctive artworks using a C code compiler — launches interactive NFT collectibles for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA‘s) “Remembrance of Things Future” project. Inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s 19th-century photo sequences, the artworks represent an innovative opportunity for Noumenon NFT owners to explore Muybridge’s work with a catch.
Quick Takes:
- Deafbeef launches interactive NFT collectibles for LACMA’s “Remembrance of Things Future” initiative, inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s 19th-century photo sequences.
- Noumenon NFT owners can create a separate NFT by taking a chronophotograph still image sequence. However, there’s a time lock that doubles after each snapshot.
- Other Web3 creators are partnering with LACMA to partake in “Remembrance of Things Future”, exploring innovative ways to pay homage to classic art. Notable artists include Art Blocks founder Erick “Snowfro” Calderon and XCOPY.
Inspiration Behind Deafbeef’s NFTs
Deafbeef launched a pair of interactive NFT collectibles for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)’s “Remembrance of Things Future” project.
Eadweard Muybridge – most famous for creating chronological photo sequences in the 19th century – inspires Deafbeefs Ethereum-based LACMA NFT project, “Noumenon + Chronophotograph”. Similarly, the digital assets represent chronological photo sequences and audiovisual work as “representing unknowable reality beyond our immediate senses.”
Owners of each Noumenon can take a chronophotograph still image sequence and turn it into a separate NFT, thanks to the smart contract the assets associate with. Interestingly, each subsequent chronophotograph represents a more extensive, transparent, and higher-resolution still sequence, but there’s a catch: a time lock that exponentially expands, doubling after each snapshot.
224 Chronophotograph NFTs were pre-minted, selling for 0.2 ETH ($375) each, while the Noumenon NFTs have been pre-sold privately.

Calderon has been instrumental in the growth and development of the Art Blocks platform, which has become one of the most popular and influential NFT marketplaces.
On the flip side, XCOPY is best known for his striking and surreal digital artworks that often explore themes related to technology, identity, and society.
